Overview
AbCellera is hiring a Research Assistant to support the Protein Science team in Sydney. You'll generate high-quality DNA for monoclonal antibody production and maintain mammalian cell cultures. This position requires hands-on experience in Molecular Biology.
Job Description
Who you are
You are a motivated and talented individual with hands-on experience in Molecular Biology — you understand the intricacies of DNA purification and antibody production processes. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside scientists and engineers to turn scientific insights into impactful medicines. Your attention to detail ensures that all experimental write-ups are of high quality, and you are comfortable using electronic notebook systems to document your work.
You have experience maintaining and transforming bacteria to produce DNA, including preparing competent cells and managing regular stocks — you are familiar with confirming DNA quality through techniques like Sanger sequencing. Your ability to manage inventory and deliver results in a timely manner is crucial to supporting the Antibody Production team effectively.
What you'll do
In this role, you will generate high-quality DNA from bacteria at various scales to support in-house antibody production activities — you will be responsible for purifying DNA and ensuring that all samples meet quality standards before hand-off. You will maintain mammalian cells in culture and perform DNA transfections, contributing to the overall efficiency of the antibody production process. Your role will also involve collaborating with the Antibody Production team to assess antibody developability, ensuring that the medicines developed are both effective and safe.
You will engage in regular communication with team members to discuss progress and challenges, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that encourages scientific rigor and innovation. Your contributions will directly impact the development of antibody-based medicines, and you will have the opportunity to stretch and explore new techniques in the field of protein science.
What we offer
At AbCellera, you will be part of a team that values truth and scientific rigor — we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. You will have the chance to work on projects that matter, contributing to the development of breakthrough medicines that can change lives. We offer a supportive environment where you can grow your skills and advance your career in the biotechnology field.
