AccuWeather is hiring a Senior Lightning Specialist to advance their lightning detection and analysis capabilities. You'll work with RF systems, sensor networks, and algorithm development to improve lightning detection accuracy. This role requires deep scientific understanding and practical expertise.

Job Description

Who you are

You are a subject-matter expert in lightning physics with a strong background in RF systems and sensor networks. Your expertise in algorithm development allows you to lead the advancement of lightning detection methodologies and improve accuracy in real-time analysis. You have a collaborative spirit, working closely with data science, hardware, and software engineering teams to drive innovation in lightning detection technologies.

You possess a deep understanding of lightning detection algorithms, including techniques such as TOA, TDOA, and interferometry. Your analytical skills enable you to evaluate RF signals across relevant frequency bands, focusing on waveform characterization and noise mitigation. You are adept at guiding technical strategy and collaborating across various teams to deliver industry-leading lightning intelligence products.

What you'll do

In this role, you will serve as a technical and scientific authority on lightning detection methodologies and operational interpretation. You will lead the development and evaluation of lightning detection algorithms, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. Your responsibilities will include analyzing RF signals and developing signal processing pipelines for both real-time and post-processed lightning data.

You will collaborate with hardware and electrical engineering teams on sensor design and RF front-end considerations, contributing to antenna design, placement, and calibration strategies. Your work will directly impact AccuWeather's operational, commercial, and public safety offerings, making you a key player in enhancing lightning detection capabilities.
