Affirm is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and implement backend services and APIs for fraud detection. You'll work with Python or Kotlin within a microservice architecture. This position requires experience in backend engineering and collaboration across teams.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable systems that handle complex transactions and data flows. Your expertise in designing and implementing backend services has equipped you with a strong understanding of microservice architectures and event-driven systems.
You are proficient in Python or Kotlin, having used these languages to develop robust APIs that support critical business functions. Your experience includes working with REST APIs and ensuring high availability and performance in production environments.
You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Compliance, and Fraud Operations. Your strong communication skills enable you to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
You are adaptable and enjoy tackling open-ended problems, guiding your team through ambiguity to achieve quarterly goals. Your leadership style focuses on supporting your teammates and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Desirable
Experience with fraud detection systems or risk management is a plus, as is familiarity with data analysis tools that help in evaluating transaction risks. Knowledge of cloud services and infrastructure management can also enhance your contributions to the team.
What you'll do
In this role, you will own and deliver on quarterly goals for your team, ensuring that projects are completed on time and meet quality standards. You will design and implement backend services and APIs that are integral to Affirm's fraud detection capabilities, utilizing your skills in Python or Kotlin.
You will collaborate with various stakeholders across North America, including teams in Product and Fraud Strategy, to align on technical designs and project execution. Your role will involve shaping the team's roadmap and driving execution across projects that span multiple teams, ensuring that everyone is supported throughout the delivery process.
You will actively participate in code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and elevating the overall quality of the engineering processes. Your contributions will directly impact Affirm's ability to respond to fraud in real-time and after transactions, supporting business growth while protecting users and merchants.
