Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, building scalable production systems that handle high traffic and complex business logic. You understand the intricacies of designing and deploying services that are resilient and efficient, and you have a track record of debugging and optimizing distributed systems.

Your expertise lies in modern programming languages such as Scala and Go, and you have a strong grasp of building APIs that are both robust and performant. You are familiar with state-of-the-art data technologies like Kafka, which you have used to manage real-time data streams effectively.

You are well-versed in CI/CD practices and understand the importance of automated testing and deployment in maintaining system reliability. You thrive in environments where you can implement best practices for continuous integration and delivery, ensuring that releases happen smoothly and without downtime.

You have experience working in agile development teams, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality software. Your communication skills enable you to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

Experience with self-healing systems and handling extreme loads is a plus. Familiarity with cloud services and infrastructure management will also be beneficial in this role.

What you'll do

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Agoda, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable backend systems that support our core business operations. You will work on critical systems that manage inventory, pricing, customer data, and booking processes, ensuring they are efficient and reliable.

You will collaborate with product managers and other engineers to define system requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Your role will involve writing clean, maintainable code and conducting code reviews to uphold high standards of quality across the team.

You will also be involved in optimizing existing systems for performance and scalability, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions that enhance system responsiveness. Your expertise in CI/CD will be crucial as you help streamline our deployment processes and reduce the time to market for new features.

In addition, you will mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and best practices to help them grow in their roles. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, encouraging experimentation and the adoption of new technologies.
