Overview
Alembic is seeking a Senior Automation & Tools Engineer to enhance their platform's reliability and operational excellence. You'll collaborate with engineers and data scientists, focusing on infrastructure automation and monitoring. This role requires 5+ years of experience in tools development or platform engineering.
Job Description
Who you are
You have over 5 years of experience in tools development, SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering roles — you've successfully automated and maintained complex infrastructures, ensuring high reliability and performance. Your programming skills are strong, particularly with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, and you understand the intricacies of cloud-based environments. You thrive in high-compliance settings, such as SOC-2 environments, and are adept at implementing security and operational readiness across infrastructures.
You are a proactive collaborator who enjoys working closely with Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) and developers — your ability to drive a culture of performance and reliability is evident in your past roles. You have a knack for improving developer experiences by providing self-service tools and automating processes that enhance productivity. Your experience includes creating and configuring tools for datacenter provisioning and observability, which has significantly contributed to operational excellence in your previous positions.
Desirable
Experience with monitoring and incident response processes is a plus — you understand the importance of SLOs, runbooks, and on-call rotations in maintaining system health. Familiarity with data pipelines, machine learning workloads, and real-time analytics systems will set you apart. You are curious and accountable, always seeking to improve and innovate in your work.
What you'll do
In this hands-on role, you will partner with engineers and data scientists to build, automate, and maintain the infrastructure that powers Alembic's core platform. Your responsibilities will include automating and controlling datacenter and cloud-based infrastructure, focusing on build and deployment systems as well as configuration management. You will work to improve system reliability and performance through automation, observability, and proactive capacity planning.
You will create and configure tools for datacenter provisioning and configuration management, ensuring that observability is integrated into all systems. Your role will also involve improving the developer experience by providing tools for self-service, which will empower your colleagues to work more efficiently. You will implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes, ensuring that the team is prepared for any incidents that may arise.
Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with various engineering and data science teams to foster a culture of performance and reliability. You will ensure that security, compliance, and operational readiness are prioritized across both physical and cloud infrastructures. Additionally, you will drive post-incident analysis and continuous improvement initiatives, helping the team learn and grow from each experience.
What we offer
At Alembic, you will have ownership of mission-critical infrastructure in a company dedicated to solving real-world enterprise problems. You will enjoy a front-row seat to a high-performance engineering culture, where your contributions will directly influence how our platform scales — from deployment to incident management. We value curiosity, accountability, and impact, and we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Join us in shaping the future of our infrastructure and operations.
