Amazon is hiring an Applied Scientist II to develop advanced robotics systems. You'll focus on physics-based simulation methodologies and machine learning approaches. This position requires expertise in simulation techniques and robotics.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in applied science, particularly in robotics and simulation methodologies — your experience includes developing physics-based simulation techniques and machine learning approaches that enhance robotic systems. You are proficient in Python and have a solid understanding of AI and control systems, enabling you to contribute effectively to the development of advanced robotics solutions. Your ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams is essential, as you will be engaging with world-class engineers and researchers to push the boundaries of robotic dexterous manipulation and human-robot interaction.

You possess a keen analytical mindset and are adept at translating complex research ideas into robust, scalable software pipelines — your experience includes designing high-performance simulation tools that integrate seamlessly into production robotics stacks. You are familiar with sim-to-real transfer methods and have a passion for advancing the fidelity of physics-based simulations in contact-rich environments. Your strong problem-solving skills allow you to quantify and reduce simulation-to-reality gaps, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of robotic systems in real-world applications.

Desirable

Experience with advanced mechanical design and control systems is a plus, as is familiarity with dynamic environments where robotics operate alongside humans. A background in developing scalable simulation solutions for both rigid and deformable body dynamics will set you apart.

What you'll do

In this role, you will advance the physics-based simulation fidelity for robotic systems, focusing on contact-rich manipulation and locomotion. You will design and build high-performance simulation tools that are integrated into Amazon's production robotics stack, ensuring that these tools meet the rigorous demands of real-world applications. Your responsibilities will include translating innovative research ideas into practical software solutions, architecting scalable simulation systems, and collaborating closely with other scientists and engineers to enhance the capabilities of Amazon's robotics technology.

You will also be tasked with developing methods to quantify and reduce gaps between simulation and reality, which is critical for the safety and efficiency of robotic operations. Your work will directly contribute to the development of adaptable automation solutions that can operate safely in dynamic environments, transforming how automation is implemented at Amazon's scale. You will be part of a team that is at the forefront of robotics innovation, shaping the future of automation and enhancing the interaction between humans and robots.

What we offer

Amazon provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401(k) matching program and paid time off. You will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and professional growth. The salary for this position ranges from $142,800 to $193,200 annually, reflecting the importance of this role in our mission to revolutionize automation through advanced robotics.
