You have over 5 years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex debugging challenges in high-traffic environments. Your expertise in Java is deep, and you've successfully shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests, demonstrating strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies.

You possess a solid understanding of security principles and best practices — you've designed and implemented modern authentication protocols and have a track record of strengthening security postures in previous roles. Your analytical problem-solving skills are outstanding, allowing you to translate complex security and reliability requirements into scalable, maintainable systems.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams including Security Engineering, Fraud Prevention, and Customer Support — your ability to operate in ambiguity and make sound technical decisions under pressure sets you apart. You are passionate about creating secure account experiences and preventing fraud and abuse across platforms.

Desirable

Experience with legacy system modernization is a plus — you have a knack for adopting the newest technologies to improve existing systems. Familiarity with high-scale transactional systems and a commitment to providing flawless user experiences are also desirable traits.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Account Services team, you will build and evolve secure, high-scale systems that power critical user flows for Apple’s services. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement modern authentication protocols that enhance user security while ensuring seamless transactions. You will work on strengthening the security posture of the platform through industry-leading best practices and will be involved in modernizing legacy systems by integrating the latest technologies.

You will collaborate with various teams, including Security Engineering and Fraud Prevention, to develop secure account experiences that prevent fraud and abuse across the platform. Your role will also involve rapidly resolving customer-impacting issues, ensuring that the user experience remains flawless. You will be expected to make sound technical decisions under pressure, translating complex requirements into effective solutions.
