You possess a PhD degree, which is preferred, and have a proven track record of collaborating with machine learning researchers and engineers. Your experience includes assessing existing evaluation techniques for foundational models and improving them to suit specific use cases. You are adept at studying loss patterns of models and attributing them to various drivers throughout the model development lifecycle.

Your expertise extends to defining training data quality metrics and assessing the quality of training data to ensure it positively impacts model performance. You are skilled in driving interpretability of ablation studies and documenting takeaways, all while employing a hypothesis-driven experimentation strategy. You are also familiar with building tools and automation processes using large language models to scale data science projects.

What you'll do

As a Senior Data Scientist at Apple, you will partner with machine learning researchers to develop novel techniques for evaluating the performance and capabilities of foundational models. You will lead projects that assess existing evaluation techniques and improve them for Apple's unique use cases. Your role will involve studying loss patterns of models and attributing them to various drivers across the lifecycle of model development, from pre-training to supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.

You will define and assess training data quality metrics, ensuring that the quality of training data positively impacts model performance. Your responsibilities will also include driving the interpretability of ablation studies, documenting key takeaways, and implementing a hypothesis-driven experimentation strategy. You will leverage your data mining expertise to identify characteristics of training data that influence model performance, contributing to the overall success of Apple's intelligence features.
