Overview
Apple is hiring a Machine Learning Research Engineer for the Siri team to build and deploy powerful LLMs on-device. You'll work with technologies like Python and TensorFlow to optimize models for efficiency and privacy. This role requires expertise in machine learning and data engineering.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in machine learning and experience with building and deploying models — you've worked on projects that required you to bridge the gap between research and practical applications, ensuring that models are efficient and effective in real-world scenarios. Your expertise in Python and familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch enable you to tackle complex challenges in AI. You understand the importance of data quality and have experience in data engineering, ensuring that the models you develop are built on robust datasets. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in AI applications.
Desirable
Experience with large language models (LLMs) and on-device deployment is a plus — you have a keen interest in the latest advancements in AI and are eager to apply them in practical settings. Familiarity with performance optimization techniques for machine learning models will set you apart, as you will be tasked with making models faster and smarter within tight constraints. A passion for privacy and user-centric design in AI applications is essential, as you will be contributing to the development of intelligent assistants that prioritize user data security.
What you'll do
As a Machine Learning Research Engineer on the Siri team, you will own the full ML stack from data to deployment — this means architecting and training LLMs specifically for assistant behavior, defining what reasoning and task completion mean for millions of users. You will master the art of model surgery, designing and implementing novel context and adapter strategies to enhance model performance while adhering to the constraints of on-device deployment. Your role will involve collaborating closely with hardware and software teams to ensure that the models you develop are optimized for the devices they will run on.
You will also be responsible for data as a product, understanding that world-class models are built on world-class data — this involves curating and managing datasets that will be used for training and fine-tuning models. You will engage in performance testing and optimization, continuously iterating on your models to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Your work will directly impact the user experience of Siri, making it a more intelligent and responsive assistant.
What we offer
At Apple, you will be part of a team that is at the forefront of AI innovation — you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future of on-device AI. We offer a collaborative and inclusive work environment where your contributions will be valued and recognized. You will have access to resources and support to further your professional development and grow your skills in machine learning and AI. Join us in our mission to create intelligent assistants that enhance the lives of users around the world.
