Who you are

You have over 8 years of experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, or applied AI roles — your solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, especially around large models, sets you apart. You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable moving between prototyping and production, demonstrating a hands-on approach to engineering challenges. Your extensive experience with ML frameworks and the Python ML ecosystem allows you to contribute effectively to the team. You are knowledgeable about TPU/GPU/CPU workflows and are excited to push the frontier of applied AI through practical, elegant engineering.

You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally with machine learning engineers, data scientists, and infrastructure teams — your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly helps you stay on the cutting edge of tooling that supercharges ML/AI innovation. You are passionate about designing for flexibility across future projects and contributing to the architectural direction of Apple’s broader AI ecosystem.

Desirable

Experience with Generative AI and large language models is a plus, as is familiarity with the entire AI lifecycle from experimentation to production inference. You have a keen interest in observability, reproducibility, and modularity in your engineering practices, which enhances the quality of the AI features you help build.

What you'll do

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will design and build infrastructure that supports AI features, empowering billions of Apple customers. You will develop tools used internally at Apple to create AI experiences throughout the entire lifecycle, from experimentation to production inference. Your focus will be on ensuring that these tools emphasize observability, reproducibility, and modularity, which are critical for successful AI implementations.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including machine learning engineers, data scientists, and infrastructure specialists, to stay at the forefront of ML/AI innovation at Apple. Your contributions will help shape the architectural direction for Apple’s AI ecosystem, ensuring that it is flexible and adaptable for future projects. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, sharing your expertise, and fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creativity.
