Apple is hiring a Snowflake Platform Engineer to optimize data warehouse performance and automate administration tasks. You'll work with Snowflake, Python, and AWS in Austin, Texas.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in Snowflake platform administration and performance engineering, with a focus on optimizing workloads and automating tasks. Your experience includes performance tuning and optimization, where you've proactively monitored and tuned workloads using tools like Snowsight Performance Explorer. You understand the importance of transforming data warehouses into high-performance engines that support real-time decision-making.

You are skilled in designing and managing unified storage solutions using Apache Iceberg, allowing open-format data to be queried directly in Snowflake. Your expertise extends to developing advanced scripts and pipelines using Snowpark Python and Snowpark pandas APIs for scalable data transformations. You are familiar with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, which you use to automate administrative tasks such as environment provisioning and security policy enforcement.

Your experience in cloud environments, particularly with AWS, includes managing Snowflake Iceberg Tables and utilizing services like S3, EKS, and VPC peering. You have a keen understanding of advanced cost management strategies, implementing autonomous warehouse management and optimizing cluster sizes based on real-time usage patterns.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for the seamless synergy between automated administration and high-tier workload optimization on the Snowflake platform. You will monitor and tune workloads to ensure optimal performance, analyzing query profiles to identify issues such as disk spillage and Cartesian joins. Your work will involve implementing Search Optimization Services and Query Acceleration to enhance query execution.

You will design and manage unified storage solutions using Apache Iceberg, enabling efficient querying of open-format data in Snowflake. Additionally, you will develop advanced Python scripts and pipelines to automate data transformations and administrative tasks, ensuring a high level of efficiency and performance.

Your responsibilities will also include managing Snowflake accounts and virtual warehouses, ensuring that the platform operates smoothly and efficiently. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices for data management and performance optimization, contributing to the overall success of the data platform.
