Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable production systems. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of debugging distributed systems. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you’ve shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests and have strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies.
You are familiar with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and understand how to leverage them to build efficient systems. Your experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes allows you to create robust deployment pipelines. You have a solid understanding of databases, especially PostgreSQL, and can optimize queries for performance.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. Your communication skills enable you to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively. You are driven by a desire to innovate and improve processes, always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience.
Desirable
Experience with REST API design and implementation is a plus, as is familiarity with microservices architecture. You may also have experience with CI/CD practices and tools, which will help streamline development workflows. What you'll do
As a Staff Back-end Engineer at Coupang, you will play a crucial role in the Global Operation Technology team, responsible for building and maintaining the systems that ensure reliable order fulfillment. You will design and implement scalable backend services that can handle high volumes of transactions efficiently. Your work will directly impact the speed and reliability of order processing, enhancing the overall customer experience.
You will collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to define system requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
