Overview
Datadog is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for their Feature Flags team to develop high-performance SDKs and contribute to the OpenFeature ecosystem. You'll work with Rust and collaborate across systems to ensure low-latency performance. This role requires significant backend engineering experience.
Job Description
Who you are
You are an experienced backend engineer with a strong background in building high-performance systems — you thrive on solving ambiguous problems through iteration and enjoy the challenge of working with distributed systems. Your expertise in Rust allows you to contribute effectively to the development of SDKs that span multiple languages and platforms, ensuring performance and reliability at scale.
You have a passion for open-source contributions and are familiar with the OpenFeature ecosystem — your experience in designing and implementing systems for advanced experimentation models, such as mutual exclusion and contextual multi-armed bandits, sets you apart. You understand the importance of correctness and low-latency performance in global systems, and you are eager to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate feature flagging with observability and AI-assisted development products.
What you'll do
In this role, you will develop high-performance SDKs that leverage a shared Rust-based core, contributing to the evolution of OpenFeature and its surrounding ecosystem. You will design and implement systems that support advanced experimentation models, ensuring that feature flag configurations are distributed reliably and evaluated at low latency. Your collaboration with cross-functional teams will be crucial in integrating feature flagging capabilities with Datadog's observability tools.
You will also be responsible for architecting global systems that can handle the complexities of feature flag configurations, ensuring that they meet the performance and reliability standards expected by Datadog's customers. Your work will directly impact the future of Datadog's experimentation platform, and you will play a key role in shaping how customers control application behavior and reduce deployment risk.
What we offer
Datadog values a collaborative office culture that fosters creativity and strong relationships among team members. As part of a hybrid workplace, you will have the flexibility to create a work-life harmony that suits you best. You will join a team that operates with the speed and innovation of a growth-stage startup, backed by the resources and support of a well-established company. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in the potential of diverse backgrounds to contribute to our mission.
