You have 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable production systems. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have a track record of debugging complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you’ve shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests and have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You thrive in cross-functional environments, collaborating with various teams to drive impactful technical contributions. You are resourceful and passionate about reinventing the financial system to better serve individuals living paycheck to paycheck. You understand the importance of real-time financial flexibility and are eager to make a meaningful impact through your work.

Desirable

Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure would be a plus, as would familiarity with microservices architecture. You are comfortable with REST API design and have a solid understanding of database optimization techniques. You enjoy mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge across teams, fostering a culture of learning and growth.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Engineer at Earnin, you will play a crucial role in shaping the backend architecture of our financial products. You will work closely with product managers and designers to translate user needs into technical solutions, ensuring that our services are robust and scalable. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing new features, optimizing existing services, and maintaining legacy systems. You will also be involved in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers to uphold high coding standards. Earnin offers a competitive salary range of $251,000 to $306,000, along with equity and benefits.
