Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with 8 years of experience working with data structures and algorithms. With at least 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, you are well-versed in the intricacies of coding and system design. Your leadership experience spans 3 years, during which you've managed teams, led projects, and designed, analyzed, and troubleshot distributed systems. A Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred, along with an additional year of people management experience. You thrive in a culture that promotes intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and openness, and you are eager to mentor your team while establishing credibility through quality technical execution.

What you'll do

As an Engineering Manager II in Site Reliability Engineering, you will combine software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. Your role will involve ensuring that Google's services maintain reliability and uptime that meets users' needs while driving a fast rate of improvement. You will manage on-call rotations across continents, utilizing a follow-the-sun model to ensure continuous service availability. Your responsibilities will include designing, writing, and delivering software that enhances the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Google's services. You will also focus on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and automating processes to prevent problem recurrence. Leading by example, you will mentor your team and foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovative thinking and risk-taking.

We promote a blame-free environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and collaboration is key to our success. You will be part of a team that is committed to continuous improvement and automation, ensuring that our systems are not only reliable but also efficient. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in the potential of diverse backgrounds and experiences to drive innovation.
