Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with 8 years of experience in software development across various programming languages. With at least 3 years of experience leading projects, you have a strong background in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems. Your excellent communication and problem-solving skills enable you to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

You possess deep expertise in computing, distributed systems, storage, or networking, and you are adept at debugging and optimizing code. Your experience in automating tasks allows you to streamline processes and improve system reliability. You thrive in a culture of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving, which is essential for success in Site Reliability Engineering.

What you'll do

As a Staff Software Engineer in Site Reliability Engineering, you will build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems that support Google Cloud's services. Your role will involve ensuring that these systems maintain reliability and uptime according to customer needs while continuously improving their performance. You will manage complex challenges unique to Google Cloud, leveraging your expertise in coding, algorithms, and large-scale system design.

You will focus on optimizing existing systems and building infrastructure while eliminating manual work through automation. Your responsibilities will include maintaining services once they are live by measuring and monitoring their availability, latency, and overall health. You will also scale systems through automation mechanisms and advocate for changes that enhance reliability and velocity.

In addition, you will practice sustainable incident response and conduct blameless postmortems to learn from incidents and improve future responses. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and reliability of Google Cloud's services, making a significant difference in how users experience these systems.
