Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience and at least 8 years of experience in software development. Your background includes 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, along with experience in compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. You possess 5 years of experience with design and architecture, as well as testing and launching software products. Your technical leadership experience spans at least 5 years, where you've led project teams and set technical direction. You thrive in complex, matrixed organizations and have a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms, with at least 8 years of experience in this area.

You are versatile and bring fresh ideas from various domains, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. You are comfortable working on critical projects that align with Google’s needs and are open to switching teams and projects as the business evolves. Your ability to influence and coach a distributed team of engineers is a key strength, and you excel at facilitating alignment across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.

Desirable

A Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred. Experience in a technical leadership role within a complex organization is a plus, as is familiarity with the latest technologies and trends in software engineering.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership on high-impact projects that require innovative solutions.
