Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 3 years of experience in systems automation, you have a solid understanding of systems design and implementation. Your background includes working with technical infrastructure, focusing on deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting. You are proficient in programming with Go or Python, emphasizing building infrastructure tooling. You also have experience collaborating with vendors or customers, showcasing your ability to communicate effectively in technical environments.

You possess a deep technical understanding of VMware vSAN, capable of advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning. Your grasp of Unix/Linux operating system internals is excellent, including memory management, file systems, and networking stacks. You are familiar with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and understand how to optimize physical data center operations. You thrive in a collaborative environment, where you can leverage your diverse background and experiences to contribute to team success.

What you'll do

As a Systems Development Engineer at Google, you will manage services and systems at scale, creatively applying your engineering discipline to automate mundane tasks and reduce toil. Your role will involve developing tools and solutions that address classes of problems rather than just fixing bugs. You will focus on observability, instrumenting systems first, then turning data into actionable knowledge. Your contributions will directly impact the operational efficiency of Google systems, services, and virtual compute environments.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the systems you manage are reliable and efficient. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing automation solutions, optimizing existing systems, and collaborating with other engineers to enhance service performance.
