Overview
Kinship is hiring a Product Engineer, Backend to build and maintain backend services using modern PHP. You'll work with Docker and AWS to design reliable APIs. This position requires strong experience in PHP and familiarity with containerized environments.
Job Description
Who you are
You have strong experience with PHP (we use PHP 8+) and are comfortable working in backend development. You enjoy building clean APIs and designing resilient systems that enhance user experience. Your familiarity with containerized environments using Docker allows you to standardize development and streamline deployments effectively. You think in terms of user value, not just technical correctness, and you communicate clearly and collaborate thoughtfully with your team. You are excited to work in a small, fast-moving team and have a product mindset that drives your engineering decisions. Knowledge of Laravel or Symfony is a plus, and you are comfortable with AWS basics, including deploying apps and managing databases.
Desirable
While you donβt need to tick every box, familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and an interest in DevOps, observability, or developer tooling would help you succeed in this role.
What you'll do
In this role, you will build and maintain backend services that power our platform, ensuring they are fast, simple, and secure. You will design and implement APIs that are consumed by our frontend and desktop applications, collaborating closely with product, design, and other engineers to ship features that deliver real user value. Your work with AWS services, such as ECS, S3, RDS, and CloudWatch, will help keep our systems reliable and performant. You will also write tests and monitor performance to ensure we can trust our stack at scale, contributing to the overall quality and reliability of our software.
What we offer
We provide a competitive salary and a beautiful, plant-filled office in central London, conveniently located by Southwark tube station. Our team is a no-BS group of people who love building great software together, and we believe in real autonomy and influence over product and tech decisions. We prioritize work-life balance, ensuring that our team members can thrive both personally and professionally.
