Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience designing and developing software for highly reliable and scalable distributed systems in a cloud environment — you've tackled complex challenges and understand the intricacies of cloud architecture. Your hands-on experience with API Gateway technologies, such as Netflix Zuul OSS, Envoy Gateway, and Kubernetes Gateway API, sets you apart as a key player in building robust communication frameworks.

You possess deep expertise in Layer 4 (TCP/UDP) and Layer 7 (HTTP/S, gRPC, WebSockets) protocols — your understanding of these protocols allows you to optimize performance and ensure reliability in high-demand scenarios. Additionally, your knowledge of TLS protocol internals, common vulnerabilities, and configuration best practices ensures that security is at the forefront of your designs.

Your solid understanding of secure communication and API Security Standards, including OAuth2 and JWT, enables you to implement best practices that protect user data and maintain system integrity. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs.

What you'll do

As a Distributed Systems Engineer at Netflix, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating the core infrastructure that enables internal and external applications to communicate securely and efficiently. You will work on systems that power billions of requests per day across critical business areas, including Streaming, Live Events, Ads, Gaming, and Gen AI.

You will collaborate with talented engineers to evolve the Cloud Gateway, ensuring it meets the demands of a rapidly changing landscape. Your role will involve hands-on development, where you will implement and optimize API Gateway solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of our services.

You will also be tasked with monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise, ensuring that our infrastructure remains robust and responsive. Your contributions will directly impact the user experience, as you help maintain the backbone of Netflix's cloud platform.
