You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in backend development, where you've designed and implemented large-scale distributed systems. Your expertise in Java is complemented by a strong understanding of messaging systems, particularly Apache Kafka, which you have used to build high-performance applications. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy tackling complex technical challenges that require innovative solutions. You are passionate about creating systems that can handle massive amounts of data and events, ensuring reliability and efficiency.

You have a proven track record of leading projects from conception to deployment, demonstrating your ability to manage the full software development lifecycle. Your experience includes working with cloud services and distributed architectures, which has equipped you with the skills to optimize performance and scalability. You are comfortable with troubleshooting and debugging complex systems, and you have a keen eye for identifying areas for improvement.

You are a strong communicator, able to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You enjoy mentoring junior engineers and sharing your knowledge with the team, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration. Experience with transitioning services from Amazon SQS to in-house solutions is a plus. Familiarity with other messaging systems and cloud platforms will also be beneficial in this role.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Queue team at Roblox, you will play a pivotal role in the evolution and operation of our in-house distributed queue system. You will lead efforts to enhance the performance and scalability of this critical service, which currently handles tens of trillions of events daily. Your work will directly impact various services, including analytics, matchmaking, and trust-safety, ensuring that our platform remains robust and efficient.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features that meet the growing demands of our user base. This includes optimizing existing systems and developing new capabilities that enhance the overall user experience on Roblox. You will also be responsible for monitoring system performance and implementing improvements based on data-driven insights.
