Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the production of C103 nozzle extensions for Falcon 9's second-stage Merlin engines. You'll focus on precision welding and quality assurance processes. This role requires expertise in manufacturing processes and materials.

Who you are

You have a background in manufacturing engineering with experience in precision welding and quality assurance processes. Your expertise in GTAW and TIG welding allows you to contribute effectively to the production of high-performance components. You understand the importance of material forming and non-destructive testing in ensuring product reliability and safety. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy mentoring teammates to enhance their skills and knowledge. Your analytical skills enable you to identify and resolve manufacturing discrepancies efficiently, leading multi-disciplinary teams in root cause analysis and corrective actions. You are committed to continuous improvement and have a track record of developing and evaluating manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.

Desirable

Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes or similar high-stakes environments is a plus. Familiarity with advanced materials, particularly niobium alloys, will enhance your contributions to the team. A proactive approach to identifying design-for-manufacturability improvements will set you apart as a candidate.

What you'll do

In this role, you will support the day-to-day production of the Merlin Nozzle Extension, focusing on various manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and assembly. You will analyze recurring manufacturing discrepancies and lead teams in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and reliability of SpaceX's rocket systems, enhancing the success of satellite deployments. You will also develop new manufacturing processes and evaluate existing ones to minimize non-conformance and reduce operating costs. As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance to your peers and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and improvement within the team. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that manufacturing processes align with design specifications and quality standards.
