Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Software Engineer for the GNC Simulations team to develop and maintain vehicle dynamics simulators for Starlink. You'll work with C++ and Python to enhance simulation infrastructure and improve user experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in software engineering with experience in developing simulation software — you understand the complexities of vehicle dynamics and have a passion for aerospace technologies. Proficiency in C++ and Python is essential, as you will be programming core simulation infrastructure and collaborating on building models that accurately represent multi-body physics and environmental perturbations.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy tackling complex challenges — your ability to work well with cross-functional teams will be crucial as you engage with simulation software users to develop new features and improve user experience. You are detail-oriented and committed to software best practices, ensuring that the systems you maintain are reliable and scalable.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer on the Starlink GNC team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the in-house vehicle dynamics simulator — your work will directly impact the performance and capability of the system as it scales with the Starlink constellation. You will also enhance the GNC Monte Carlo simulation infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of various engineering groups.

You will collaborate closely with simulation software users to gather feedback and develop new features that enhance the overall user experience — your role will involve programming, testing, and refining simulation models to ensure high fidelity in representing vehicle dynamics. Additionally, you will work on hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulations and GNC-specific data visualization, contributing to the development of cutting-edge software and hardware for SpaceX's ambitious goals.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team focused on making human life multi-planetary — we offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a dynamic environment where your contributions will have a significant impact on the future of space exploration. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and skills.
