Who you are

You have a strong background in financial operations and cloud cost management, with experience in analyzing AWS and GCP billing to identify optimization opportunities. You understand the intricacies of cloud infrastructure and have a knack for implementing cost-saving strategies such as rightsizing and instance scheduling. Your analytical skills allow you to monitor usage trends and make data-driven decisions that enhance cloud cost efficiency.

You are collaborative by nature, working closely with engineering, finance, and operations teams to establish best practices and implement FinOps methodologies. You have a proven track record of defining and enforcing tagging policies and cost allocation mechanisms that align with organizational objectives. Your ability to forecast cloud expenses and create budgets is complemented by your experience in tracking financial KPIs.

What you'll do

As a FinOps Engineer at Supabase, you will own the responsibility of driving cost optimization for our AWS infrastructure. You will analyze AWS and GCP billing, usage, and cost trends to identify areas for improvement. Implementing cost-saving strategies will be a key part of your role, including rightsizing, instance scheduling, and utilizing reserved instances and savings plans. You will establish tagging policies and cost allocation mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability in cloud spending.

You will collaborate with finance to forecast cloud expenses and create budgets, while also working with engineering teams to align architecture decisions with cost efficiency. Your role will involve optimizing data transfer costs and storage lifecycle policies, as well as monitoring spot instances and auto-scaling opportunities. You will define and enforce FinOps best practices that are aligned with our organizational goals, ensuring that we maintain a strong financial governance framework.

In addition, you will implement automated cost reporting, anomaly detection, and alerting mechanisms to keep track of our cloud expenses effectively. Your expertise in tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and GCP Billing Reports will be essential in driving our financial operations forward.
