Job Description

Who you are

You hold an MS, GC, or PhD degree in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, or Biological Sciences — your academic background has equipped you with a deep understanding of genetic principles and their application in clinical settings. You have prior experience in a diagnostic laboratory, which has honed your skills in clinical report writing and familiarity with human mutation databases and genome browsers.

Your expertise includes reading and interpreting scientific literature, allowing you to curate relevant findings in a clear, concise, and precise manner. You are adept at summarizing somatic and inherited genetic test results, ensuring that the clinical reports you generate are of the highest quality. You understand the importance of critical quality control functions for molecular reports, complying with quality management programs and standard operating procedures.

You are passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry, and you are excited about the potential of AI to impact clinical care meaningfully. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with clinical teams to provide actionable insights that can influence patient treatment decisions.

Desirable

Experience in oncology is preferred, as it aligns with the focus of the role on cancer genetics. Familiarity with HGVS nomenclature will also be beneficial in accurately classifying variants. You may have experience training junior team members, showcasing your leadership potential and commitment to team development.

What you'll do

As a Variant Scientist at Tempus, you will play a crucial role in classifying somatic and germline variants for various tests, including liquid biopsy, panel tests, and whole exome NGS sequencing. You will utilize a variety of in-house software tools to analyze clinical molecular data, ensuring that the insights you provide are both accurate and actionable.

Your responsibilities will include performing critical quality control functions for molecular reports, ensuring compliance with established quality management programs and standard operating procedures. You will support improvements for current assays and processes, contributing to the overall enhancement of the laboratory's capabilities.

In addition to your technical duties, you will curate variants, genes, and diseases for scientific and clinical relevance, ensuring that the information provided to physicians is up-to-date and relevant. You will also have the opportunity to train junior team members, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster their development.

What we offer

Tempus offers a dynamic work environment where you can contribute to meaningful advancements in precision medicine. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to leveraging technology to improve patient outcomes. The role is fully remote, providing you with the flexibility to work from anywhere while still being part of a collaborative team.
