Uber is hiring a Manager II, Applied Science to lead a global team of data scientists focused on enhancing safety across the platform. You'll oversee the science lifecycle on high-visibility projects, utilizing skills in statistics and data science. This role requires a strong background in quantitative fields and team management experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields — your academic background has equipped you with a solid foundation in statistical analysis and data interpretation. With a minimum of 7 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent, you have honed your skills in data-driven decision-making and scientific methodologies. If you hold a Ph.D., you can bring 5+ years of experience to the table, showcasing your advanced expertise in the field.

You possess at least 3 years of experience managing a team of Applied or Data Scientists — your strong people leadership skills enable you to grow and mentor your team effectively. You understand the importance of collaboration and fostering a positive team culture, aligning with Uber's values and mission. Your ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders makes you an invaluable asset in cross-functional teams.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead a global team of data scientists and applied scientists, driving high-quality science output that impacts safety for all users on the Uber platform. You will own the end-to-end science lifecycle on high-visibility safety projects, which includes conducting deep dive analyses, developing models, designing experiments, and performing causal inference. Your expertise will guide the metrics monitoring and product iteration processes, ensuring that safety remains a top priority.

You will work closely with Uber's Core Services Product Managers, Engineers, and Operations Team to identify new opportunities and act as a thought partner in solutioning. Your collaborative approach will help bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams, fostering an environment where innovative safety solutions can thrive. You will also be responsible for mentoring your team, helping them navigate challenges and grow in their careers.
