You have over 5 years of experience building highly scalable backend services — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of distributed systems. Your technical expertise is complemented by excellent written and verbal communication skills, allowing you to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. You are passionate about the maps domain and understand the importance of accurate and consistent data in powering rides and deliveries. Your experience with big data technologies is extensive — you have implemented and optimized data pipelines using tools like Apache Spark and BigQuery. You are familiar with NoSQL databases and understand how to leverage them for high throughput and low latency services. You have a keen eye for identifying inefficiencies in systems and are driven to propose meaningful improvements that enhance performance and reliability. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and are eager to contribute to the vision of the maps organization at Uber.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms and services is a plus, as is familiarity with data ingestion and processing frameworks. You may have worked on projects that required handling complex data models and ensuring their freshness and accuracy. What you'll do

In this role, you will implement Spark and related pipelines for the ingestion of large-scale map data, ensuring that the data is processed efficiently and reliably. You will optimize big data pipelines to enhance their performance and scalability, contributing to the overall efficiency of the maps platform. Your work will involve extending and optimizing large-scale services using NoSQL technologies, which will help achieve greater reliability and lower latencies in serving map data.

You will influence the base map architecture, working closely with team members and stakeholders to align on the technical direction of the maps organization. Your insights will help identify inefficiencies and opportunities for meaningful improvements across the Maps Platform and Uber as a whole. You will be empowered to contribute to the vision of the maps organization, helping to shape the future of how Uber operates globally.
