You have over 5 years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable production systems. Your expertise in Java, Kotlin, and Scala allows you to design and implement robust backend solutions that support thousands of engineers. You are passionate about creating a seamless developer experience and have a track record of driving technical initiatives that enhance platform capabilities.

You possess deep knowledge of CI/CD processes and developer tooling, enabling you to lead the architecture and roadmap for developer platform initiatives. Your ability to mentor and guide senior engineers across multiple teams is a key strength, as you thrive in collaborative environments where cross-team alignment is essential.

Your experience includes engaging with engineers to identify gaps in existing systems and proposing long-term solutions that drive efficiency and reliability. You are comfortable acting as a technical partner to engineering managers and product leaders, contributing to the overall strategy of the organization.

Desirable

Experience with open-source leadership in the JVM ecosystem is a plus, as is familiarity with build and test platforms. You understand the importance of aligning technical direction across various teams and have a knack for fostering collaboration among global counterparts.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the design and evolution of critical backend and developer infrastructure services used across Uber’s engineering organization. You will drive cross-team alignment and consistency across build systems and deployment tooling, ensuring that the JVM-based frameworks are optimized for performance and reliability.

You will engage deeply with engineers across the organization to identify gaps in the current platform and build long-term solutions that enhance the developer experience. Your hands-on guidance and mentoring will be crucial in supporting senior and staff-level engineers as they navigate complex technical challenges.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will influence global platform initiatives, ensuring strong collaboration across sites. You will act as a technical partner to engineering managers and product leaders, contributing to org-wide strategy and helping to shape the future of Uber’s developer platform.
