You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of distributed systems. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to create robust backend services that handle high volumes of data and requests efficiently.

You are familiar with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and understand how to leverage them to build scalable and resilient infrastructure. Your experience with Docker enables you to create containerized applications that simplify deployment and enhance system reliability.

You have a strong understanding of database management, particularly with PostgreSQL, and can optimize queries for performance. Your ability to engineer sophisticated monitoring and alerting systems ensures that you can maintain high availability and performance of backend services.

You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling challenges head-on and can work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. You understand the importance of security in software development and are committed to building secure systems that protect user data.

Desirable

Experience with vulnerability scanning and risk analysis is a plus, as is familiarity with compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001. You are always eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Vendor Risk Management team, you will design, build, and operate backend services that power Vanta's automated attack surface analysis engine. Your role will involve developing distributed systems for asset discovery and vulnerability scanning, ensuring they are high-performing and provide comprehensive coverage.

You will be responsible for creating and maintaining sophisticated monitoring and alerting systems that help identify and respond to potential security threats in real-time. Collaborating closely with product managers and security analysts, you will ensure that the backend services align with Vanta's mission to provide continuous security monitoring for compliance standards.

You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow in their roles. Your contributions will directly impact the effectiveness of Vanta's Vendor Risk Management product, empowering customers to mitigate third-party risks effectively.
