Overview

WorkBoard is seeking a Controller to build and scale a world-class accounting organization. You'll ensure GAAP compliance and lead systems modernization efforts. This role requires strong accounting and financial management skills.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in accounting with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role — you've successfully built and scaled accounting organizations in fast-growing companies. Your expertise in GAAP compliance is robust, and you are familiar with ASC 606, ASC 842, and ASC 718, ensuring that all financial practices align with regulatory standards. You are adept at leading teams through the monthly close process, improving efficiency, and ensuring audit readiness. Your experience with ERP systems and financial tools allows you to modernize processes effectively, enhancing reliability and scalability.

You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders — you understand the importance of aligning financial strategies with overall business objectives. Your leadership style fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, encouraging your team to excel in their roles. You are also comfortable supporting audits and financial due diligence processes, providing insights that drive informed decision-making.

Desirable

Experience in a SaaS environment is a plus, as is familiarity with AI-driven tools that enhance financial operations. You have a proactive approach to problem-solving and are always looking for ways to innovate and improve existing processes. Your ability to adapt to changing business needs and regulatory requirements will be crucial as WorkBoard continues to grow.

What you'll do

As the Controller at WorkBoard, you will be responsible for building and scaling the accounting organization to support the company's growth over the next 12-24 months. You will own and improve the monthly close process, aiming for a close cycle of under 6 business days. This involves streamlining procedures, enhancing internal controls, and ensuring that all financial practices are compliant with GAAP standards. You will lead the modernization of systems and processes, including ERP upgrades and the implementation of AI-driven tools to improve efficiency and reliability.

You will also play a key role in preparing the company for late-stage maturity, establishing scalable accounting policies and procedures that can adapt to future growth. Supporting audits and financial due diligence processes will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that the organization is well-prepared for any financial scrutiny. Your influence will be visible and immediate, as you help shape the financial landscape of a high-impact, fast-growing SaaS company.

What we offer

At WorkBoard, you will have the opportunity to be part of a mission-driven team that is redefining strategy execution in enterprises. We value craftsmanship, ownership, and impact, and you will have the chance to build things from the ground up. The role places you on a leadership succession path toward CFO or CFO-adjacent roles, providing significant career growth opportunities. Join us in making a difference as we empower organizations to achieve their most important outcomes.
