Overview
Xcimer Energy is hiring a Principal Experimental Physicist to lead the Vulcan fusion program. You'll design and execute experiments to demonstrate wall plug breakeven in fusion energy. This role requires expertise in physics and engineering.
Job Description
Who you are
You are a seasoned physicist with a strong background in experimental design and execution, particularly in the field of fusion energy. Your leadership skills shine as you guide teams through complex experimental setups, ensuring that all diagnostic requirements are met and that experiments align with the overarching goals of the Vulcan program. You possess a deep understanding of the physics principles that underpin inertial fusion energy and are adept at translating these principles into actionable experimental plans. Your problem-solving skills are exceptional, allowing you to navigate challenges that arise during experimentation with ease and creativity.
You have a proven track record of collaboration across disciplines, bridging the gap between physics, engineering, and systems integration. Your curiosity drives you to explore innovative approaches to experimental design, and you are dedicated to maintaining high standards of quality in all aspects of your work. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are motivated by the mission to combat climate change through the development of clean fusion power.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead the design and execution of experiments that are critical to the success of the Vulcan fusion program. You will be responsible for developing test plans that validate the readiness of facilities and subsystems for ignition physics. Your expertise will guide the team in ensuring that all experimental capabilities align with the physics basis of the Fusion Pilot Plant. You will also own the diagnostic requirements for experiments, ensuring that data collected is accurate and relevant to the goals of the program.
As the first experimentalist in the Vulcan program, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of research and experimentation. You will collaborate closely with engineers and other scientists to ensure that the design and diagnostics of the Vulcan system are optimized for success. Your leadership will be essential in fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team, as you mentor junior scientists and encourage their professional development.
You will also engage with external stakeholders and investors, communicating the progress and potential of the Vulcan program. Your ability to articulate complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences will be crucial in garnering support for the program's initiatives. You will contribute to the strategic planning of the program, identifying key milestones and ensuring that the team remains focused on achieving its ambitious goals.
What we offer
