Systems Engineer • Contract

Who you are

You have strong experience with low-level languages, particularly Rust, C, or C++. Your background includes a solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and database internals, which allows you to design and implement core infrastructure components effectively. You thrive in fast-moving engineering environments and are comfortable operating close to the metal, bringing a pragmatic, quality-driven approach to problem-solving. Your strong systems-level thinking enables you to optimize binary protocols and work on performance-critical parts of the system. You are an effective communicator and a strong collaborator, able to work closely with client teams to deliver impactful solutions. You are curious and deeply technical, always eager to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Desirable

Experience with context engineering workflows such as Claude Code, Codex, or Agentic Coding would be a plus. Familiarity with performance optimization techniques and a keen interest in the latest developments in distributed systems will set you apart.

What you'll do

As a Contract Systems Engineer at YLD, you will be part of a client team responsible for designing and building the core foundations of a highly performant, low-latency system. You will collaborate closely with your team to implement core infrastructure components and optimize binary protocols, ensuring the system meets high-performance standards. Your role will involve working on performance-critical parts of the system, where your expertise in low-level programming will be crucial. You will engage in context engineering workflows, contributing to the overall success of the project by bringing innovative solutions to complex problems. You will also participate in code reviews and technical discussions, sharing your insights and helping to elevate the team's capabilities.
