You are adaptable and willing to learn, understanding that externships can vary in length and schedule. You are prepared to engage in various aspects of veterinary care, from patient examinations to surgical assistance, under the guidance of a mentor.
As an extern at Palmetto Animal Hospital, you will immerse yourself in the daily operations of a small animal practice. You will gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, and assist in developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans. Your role will include scrubbing in for surgeries and managing medical cases, providing you with a comprehensive view of veterinary practice.
You will have the opportunity to enhance your client communication skills, ensuring that you can effectively convey important information to pet owners. Throughout your externship, you will work closely with a mentor who will provide guidance, instruction, and evaluation based on your college program's learning objectives.
Your externship will typically last between two to eight weeks, allowing you to tailor your experience to fit your educational requirements. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of patient care, gaining valuable insights into the veterinary profession and preparing you for your future career.
Palmetto Animal Hospital is dedicated to investing in the next generation of veterinary doctors. Our externship program is designed to enhance your practice-readiness, ensuring you are well-prepared to deliver high-quality care after graduation. You will receive a stipend of $250 per week during your externship, providing you with financial support as you gain invaluable experience in the field.
