Senior Software Engineer, Control Plane

Who you are

You have over 5 years of experience working in a team to develop, deliver, and maintain complex software solutions — you've tackled challenges in building scalable systems and understand the intricacies of microservices architectures. Your expertise in Go is complemented by your experience in designing, prototyping, and debugging distributed systems, which allows you to contribute effectively to the development of Kong's cloud-hosted control plane.

You are familiar with DevOps practices, particularly in monitoring and observability, which enables you to support services in production effectively. Your experience with L4/L7 proxies such as Nginx, HA-proxy, or Envoy equips you with the knowledge to optimize service performance and reliability. You have a solid understanding of containerization and Kubernetes, which is essential for developing and supporting large-scale SaaS platforms.

Your ability to design and write APIs is complemented by a firm grasp of the API lifecycle, ensuring that the services you develop are robust and maintainable. You enjoy mentoring other team members, sharing your knowledge, and helping them grow in their roles, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.

Desirable

Experience with cloud technologies and a passion for building connectivity solutions would be a plus. Familiarity with the API and AI connectivity landscape can help you understand the broader context of your work at Kong.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain microservices that power Kong Konnect, the Service Connectivity Platform. You will work closely with Product Management and cross-functional engineering teams to implement and maintain services that directly impact our customers' businesses. Your contributions will include designing and implementing solutions to technical problems of moderate complexity, ensuring that the services you develop are reliable and scalable.

You will participate in an on-call rotation to support the services in production, which will require you to be proactive in identifying and resolving issues. Writing automated tests will be a key part of your responsibilities to ensure the behavior of your code and avoid regressions. You will also have the opportunity to mentor other engineers, sharing your expertise and helping them develop their skills.
