1. Introduction

Welcome to Nutreo: AI Calorie & Nutrition Tracker ("Nutreo", "we", "us", or "our"). Nutreo is an iOS application developed and operated by Leethub, LLC, a company incorporated in Delaware, USA.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, including health and fitness data accessed through Apple HealthKit. Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the application.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account using Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we may collect:

  • Name: Your name as provided by Apple or Google (if you choose to share it).
  • Email address: Your email address (which may be a relay address if using Apple Sign-In).

Health & Fitness Data

With your explicit permission, Nutreo accesses the following data from Apple HealthKit:

  • Steps: Daily step count data.
  • Active energy burned: Calories burned through physical activity.
  • Weight: Body weight measurements (read and write).
  • Dietary energy: Calorie intake data (written to HealthKit from your food logs).

You may also manually enter the following health information within the app:

  • Height, age, and gender (used to calculate nutritional goals)
  • Target weight and activity level

Food & Nutrition Data

  • Food photos: Photos you take of meals for AI-powered calorie and macro analysis.
  • Meal logs: Food items, portion sizes, calories, and macronutrient data (protein, carbohydrates, fat).
  • Barcode scans: Product barcodes scanned to look up nutritional information.
  • Meal history: A record of your logged meals over time.

Exercise Data

  • Exercise entries you log manually, including type, duration, and estimated calories burned.

Purchase Information

  • Records of in-app purchases and subscriptions (managed by Apple).

Automatically Collected Data

When you use the app, we may automatically collect:

  • Device type and model
  • Operating system version
  • App version
  • Usage patterns (features used, screens visited)
  • Crash logs and diagnostic data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the Nutreo app and its calorie tracking, nutrition analysis, and AI food recognition features
  • Analyze food photos using AI to estimate calories and macronutrients
  • Calculate personalized daily calorie and macro goals based on your profile
  • Sync health data with Apple HealthKit (with your permission)
  • Track your nutrition and fitness progress over time
  • Manage your account and subscriptions
  • Display relevant advertisements (via Google AdMob)
  • Improve our app, features, and AI accuracy
  • Detect and prevent technical issues, fraud, and abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Apple HealthKit Data

Nutreo integrates with Apple HealthKit to provide a comprehensive health and nutrition tracking experience. This section describes our specific commitments regarding HealthKit data.

HealthKit Data Usage

Data obtained through HealthKit is used exclusively to provide health and fitness tracking features within the Nutreo app. Specifically:

  • Step count and active energy data are used to display your daily activity and adjust calorie goals.
  • Weight data is used to track your progress toward your goals.
  • Nutreo writes dietary energy (calories consumed) and weight data back to HealthKit so it is available to you in Apple Health and other authorized apps.

HealthKit Data Restrictions

In compliance with Apple's requirements and our commitment to your privacy:

  • No advertising: HealthKit data is never used for advertising, marketing, or to serve targeted ads. It is not shared with advertising networks, data brokers, or information resellers.
  • No third-party sharing: HealthKit data is never disclosed, sold, or shared with any third parties for any purpose, except as strictly necessary to provide the app's core health tracking functionality to you.
  • No secondary use: HealthKit data is not used for any purpose other than providing health and fitness features directly to you within the Nutreo app.
  • User control: You can revoke Nutreo's access to HealthKit data at any time through your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > Nutreo.

5. Food Photo Processing

When you use Nutreo to photograph food for AI analysis:

  • Your food photo is uploaded to our servers and sent to a third-party AI processing service (Replicate) for nutritional analysis.
  • The AI analyzes the photo to identify food items and estimate calories and macronutrients.
  • Food photos are stored on our servers (Amazon S3) to enable your meal history.
  • We do not use your food photos for training AI models.

6. Advertising

Nutreo displays advertisements through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use device information and usage data to serve ads. Please note:

  • Apple HealthKit data is never used for advertising purposes.
  • Your food logs, meal photos, and nutrition data are never shared with advertising networks.
  • AdMob may use device identifiers and general usage data for ad personalization, subject to your device's privacy settings (App Tracking Transparency).

You can limit ad tracking through your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Apple Sign-In: For authentication. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Sign-In: For authentication. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple HealthKit: For reading and writing health and fitness data. HealthKit data is handled in strict compliance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines.
  • Apple StoreKit: For managing subscriptions and in-app purchases.
  • Google Firebase: For app analytics and performance monitoring. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
  • Google AdMob: For displaying advertisements. See Google's Privacy Policy. AdMob does not receive any HealthKit data.
  • Replicate: For AI food image analysis. Food photos are sent to their API for processing. See Replicate's Privacy Policy.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): For cloud storage (S3) and hosting. See AWS Privacy Policy.

8. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Food logs and meal history: Retained until you delete your account or specific entries.
  • Food photos: Retained for as long as the associated meal log exists. Deleted when you remove the meal entry or delete your account.
  • Health and fitness data: Retained until you delete your account. HealthKit data remains in Apple Health independently of Nutreo.
  • Exercise entries: Retained until you delete your account or specific entries.
  • Usage data: Retained for up to 26 months for analytics.
  • Purchase records: Retained as required for accounting and legal purposes.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission is encrypted using SSL/TLS
  • Authentication tokens are securely stored on your device
  • Server access is restricted and monitored
  • Health data is stored separately and with additional access controls

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your data.
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data, including for direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

Our legal basis for processing your data includes: performance of a contract (providing the app service), your consent (HealthKit access, analytics), and legitimate interests (fraud prevention, app improvement).

11. Your Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to opt-out: Opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information.

12. Children's Privacy

Nutreo is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. AI Disclaimer

Nutreo uses artificial intelligence to estimate nutritional information from food photos. AI can and will make mistakes. All AI-generated calorie estimates, macronutrient breakdowns, and nutritional suggestions are rough approximations provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. They are NOT precise measurements and should NOT be treated as medical, dietary, or nutritional advice.

The AI may misidentify foods, misjudge portion sizes, fail to detect ingredients (including allergens), or produce inaccurate estimates. You should always independently verify nutritional information before making health-related decisions. Nutreo is not a medical device and is not a substitute for professional advice from a qualified healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or nutritionist.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Effective date" at the top of this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
