Overview

Amazon is hiring a Senior Controls Engineer to design and prototype high degree-of-freedom robotic systems. You'll work with MATLAB, Simulink, and embedded systems to ensure performance and safety. This position requires a Master's or PhD in a related field and expertise in actuator and control system design.

Job Description

Who you are

You are a highly skilled Mechatronics or Controls Engineer with a Master's or PhD in Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. You possess a strong background in actuator and control system design, including characterization and integration, and have a deep understanding of control theory, dynamics, and kinematics of robotic systems. Your proficiency in embedded firmware development for real-time control sets you apart, and you have hands-on experience with sensor integration, including encoders and force-torque sensors.

You thrive in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary team environment, collaborating closely with AI researchers and software engineers. Your ability to work hands-on in prototyping and refining complex systems is complemented by your experience in robotic system calibration and system identification. You are eager to contribute to the hardware-software integration loop, ensuring that systems meet strict performance and safety requirements.

Desirable

Experience with high-degree-of-freedom robotic systems is a plus, as is familiarity with developing inverse kinematics solvers and running motion simulations using tools like MuJoCo, IsaacSim, or MATLAB/Simulink. You have the ability to specify or design force/torque sensors and develop algorithms for estimating forces from motor currents for compliance and collision handling. Your expertise in implementing and tuning inverse kinematics will be invaluable in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be a core contributor to the design, prototyping, and refinement of high degree-of-freedom robotic systems. You will ensure that our systems meet strict performance, safety, and research requirements through rigorous engineering practices. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with AI researchers and software engineers to integrate hardware and software components effectively.

You will engage in hands-on prototyping, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and refine actuator and control systems. Your expertise in embedded firmware development will be crucial for real-time control applications, and you will be responsible for system characterization and integration of various sensors.

You will also contribute to the calibration of robotic systems and system identification processes, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Your role will involve implementing and tuning algorithms for inverse kinematics, enhancing the capabilities of our robotic systems.

What we offer

Amazon provides a competitive salary range of $148,700.00 - $201,200.00 USD annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where innovation and collaboration are encouraged. Join us in shaping the future of robotics at Amazon, where your contributions will have a significant impact on our technology and operations.
