Overview

Amazon is hiring a Senior Controls Engineer to design and refine high degree-of-freedom robotic systems. You'll work with MATLAB, Simulink, and embedded systems to ensure performance and safety. This position requires a Master's or PhD in a related field and expertise in actuator and control system design.

Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Master’s or PhD in Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, and you have a strong background in actuator and control system design, including characterization and integration. Your proficiency in embedded firmware development for real-time control sets you apart, and you have experience in robotic system calibration and system identification. You possess a strong grasp of control theory, dynamics, and kinematics of robotic systems, and you are familiar with sensor integration, including encoders and force-torque sensors.

You thrive in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating your ability to work hands-on and collaborate closely with AI researchers and software engineers. Your experience with high-degree-of-freedom robotic systems and developing inverse kinematics solvers is a significant asset. You are also capable of designing force/torque sensors and developing algorithms for estimating forces from motor currents for compliance and collision handling.

Desirable

Experience running motion simulations using tools like MuJoCo, IsaacSim, or MATLAB/Simulink would be a plus, as would any background in implementing and tuning inverse kinematics.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be a core contributor in the hardware-software integration loop, ensuring that our robotic systems meet strict performance, safety, and research requirements. You will design, prototype, and refine high degree-of-freedom systems, leveraging your expertise in actuation systems and low-level motor control. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with AI researchers to integrate advanced algorithms into robotic systems, ensuring seamless operation and performance.

You will also be involved in system characterization, working to optimize the performance of robotic systems through rigorous testing and validation. Your hands-on prototyping ability will be crucial as you iterate on designs and implement improvements based on testing outcomes. You will work closely with a team of engineers, contributing to the development of innovative solutions that push the boundaries of robotics technology.

What we offer

Amazon provides a competitive salary range of $173,900.00 - $235,200.00 USD annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where your contributions will directly impact the future of robotics and AI. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
