Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in managing critical infrastructure operations, ideally with military experience or as a military spouse/child. Your expertise in operational excellence and technical knowledge allows you to lead integrated Data Centre Systems and Mechanical & Electrical teams effectively. You understand the importance of maintaining operational standards and security protocols while managing vendor relationships. Your hands-on approach ensures that mission-critical infrastructure remains reliable and efficient.
You have experience in overseeing 24/7 site engineering operations, including shift planning and maintenance schedules. Your knowledge of electrical components such as feeders, transformers, generators, and UPS systems, as well as mechanical systems like chillers and air handling units, is essential for driving Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) improvements. You are committed to optimizing cooling, power, and infrastructure to achieve the best results for customers.
Desirable
Experience in the private sector, particularly in data centre operations, is a plus. Familiarity with industry standards and certifications related to data centre management will enhance your candidacy. You are a proactive leader who can implement processes that enhance infrastructure reliability and reduce operational costs.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead the AWS Data Centre Facilities team, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for managing the engineering operations of the site, which includes planning shifts, scheduling maintenance, and overseeing critical infrastructure systems. Your leadership will drive the team to maintain high operational standards and ensure compliance with security protocols.
You will work closely with third-party vendors to manage relationships and ensure that all services meet Amazon's high standards. Your role will involve implementing processes that enhance the reliability of the infrastructure while also focusing on cost efficiency. You will be expected to drive innovation within the team, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and practices that improve operational performance.
Collaboration with other teams will be key to your success. You will partner with various stakeholders to ensure that the data centre operates at peak performance, contributing to the overall success of AWS's cloud computing services. Your hands-on oversight will be crucial in maintaining the facility's certifications and operational standards.
