You hold a PhD in economics or a related field and have substantial experience in industry, consulting, government, or academic research. Your background includes a strong focus on analytics and applied economics, allowing you to develop and execute an analytic vision that addresses business-relevant problems. You are skilled in building statistical models using R, Python, or STATA, and you understand the importance of bridging the gap between scientific decisions and business impact.
You have a proven track record of leading initiatives that measure the value of new feature launches through large-scale online experiments and observational approaches. Your ability to scale decision-making across teams is complemented by your experience in owning tradeoff frameworks when competing interests arise. You thrive in collaborative environments, partnering closely with senior management, business stakeholders, and peer technologists to solve key business challenges.
What you'll do
As a Principal Economist at Amazon, you will influence the content discovery journey for Prime Video by shaping how the team makes smart, long-term decisions. You will lead initiatives to measure the value of new feature launches, employing large-scale online experiments to derive insights. Your role will involve developing new internal tools that provide visibility and explainability into model outputs, ensuring users can understand and inform future features.
You will partner with finance, business, and product managers to align scientific decisions with business objectives, effectively bridging the gap between analytics and practical application. Your responsibilities will include scaling decision-making frameworks and addressing competing interests within the organization. You will also be tasked with mentoring junior economists and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making within the team.
