Overview

Amazon is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer for their Software Defined Network Control Plane team in Redmond. You'll design and implement high throughput, low latency network architectures using Java and SDN technologies. This role requires expertise in networking and software development.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software development, particularly in networking and telecommunications. Your background includes designing and implementing scalable network architectures, and you are familiar with the challenges of global telecom services. You possess a strong understanding of software-defined networking (SDN) and have hands-on experience with routing and traffic engineering. You are adept at automating software development processes and ensuring operational excellence in control plane services. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to tackle complex problems at scale.

Desirable

Experience with satellite communication systems or low Earth orbit (LEO) networks is a plus. Familiarity with cloud services and terrestrial network infrastructure will enhance your ability to contribute to the team. A passion for innovative technology and a desire to improve connectivity for underserved areas will align well with our mission.

What you'll do

In this role, you will take responsibility for designing and delivering a modern, flexible, and scalable network architecture that supports Amazon LEO's mission of providing reliable internet connectivity. You will implement routing and forwarding protocols, as well as traffic engineering strategies to optimize network performance. Your work will involve developing highly-available software that drives the networking control plane operation on both physical and remote nodes. You will define and automate processes for software development, implementation, testing, and maintenance, ensuring that our services meet the highest standards of reliability and performance.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate various components of the network, including customer terminals, gateways, and cloud services. Your contributions will directly impact the quality of service provided to customers, from individual households to large organizations. You will also be involved in refining operational processes and tools to enhance the efficiency of our control plane services.
