Anthropic is hiring a Research Engineer / Research Scientist for their Pre-training team in Zürich. You'll work on developing large language models and optimizing training infrastructure. This role requires expertise in machine learning and programming.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in machine learning and programming, with experience in developing and optimizing models. Your expertise in Python and frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch allows you to contribute effectively to research and engineering projects. You are comfortable with data processing and have a solid understanding of model architecture, enabling you to design and implement innovative solutions.

You thrive in collaborative environments, leading small research projects while working closely with team members on larger initiatives. Your analytical skills help you design, run, and analyze scientific experiments, advancing the understanding of large language models. You are passionate about AI safety and reliability, aligning with Anthropic's mission to create beneficial AI systems.

What you'll do

In this role, you will interact with various parts of the engineering and research stacks, conducting research and implementing solutions in model architecture, algorithms, and optimizer development. You will independently lead small research projects, collaborating with team members on larger initiatives to enhance the capabilities of large language models. Your responsibilities will include designing and analyzing scientific experiments to improve our understanding of these models and optimizing our training infrastructure for efficiency and reliability.

You will also develop and improve development tooling to enhance team productivity, contributing to the entire stack from low-level optimizations to high-level model design. Your work will directly impact the development of safe, steerable, and trustworthy AI systems, making a significant contribution to the field of AI research.
