Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have war stories from debugging complex distributed systems issues. You possess deep expertise in Java and are familiar with Nginx and Jenkins, having shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests. Your experience includes leading system designs and providing technical guidance to team members, ensuring high-quality coding standards through code reviews. You are comfortable facilitating agile processes and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive project success.

You have a strong understanding of operational automation tools and are experienced in continuous integration and continuous deployment practices. Your knowledge extends to monitoring and alert systems like Prometheus, and you are adept at improving system observability and incident management. You are passionate about mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of growth and high performance within your team.

Desirable

Experience with functional programming and data-intensive application design is a plus. Familiarity with web frontend technologies and JavaScript will also be beneficial in this role.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Appier, you will be the key owner of sizable engineering projects and services, leading the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and maintainable service-based software. You will initiate and lead team-level technical, process, and growth initiatives, continuously improving the systems you work on. Your role will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the backend architecture aligns with business goals and user needs.

You will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, guiding them through cross-team development processes, and helping them grow their technical skills. You will lead code reviews to uphold high coding standards and facilitate agile processes that enhance team collaboration and efficiency. Your contributions will directly impact the success of the OJM team, as you work to develop and operate large-scale distributed systems and design and implement distributed algorithms and data structures.
