Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Backend Software Engineering — you've built scalable data systems and understand the intricacies of data governance. Your proficiency in distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark and Flink allows you to handle large datasets efficiently.

You possess strong coding skills in Java, Scala, or Python — your production-grade code is robust and optimized for performance. You have a solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns, which enables you to create efficient data models and pipelines.

Your familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Kubernetes means you can leverage modern cloud technologies to enhance data processing capabilities. You understand the importance of fiscal stewardship and cost efficiency in data engineering, ensuring that every unit of compute is accounted for and optimized.

You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with service engineers and cross-functional partners — you thrive in environments where you can build tooling that empowers engineering teams to self-govern their usage while providing leadership with visibility into total cost of ownership (TCO).

Desirable

Experience with modern table formats like Iceberg or Delta Lake would be a plus, as would familiarity with real-time data processing and enforcement mechanisms. You are comfortable navigating complex data environments and can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design and implement the technical foundation of Apple’s infrastructure economy — your work will ensure that cost is treated as a first-class citizen in the engineering stack. You will build a robust financial governance platform, developing data models and real-time pipelines that enforce governance mechanisms.

You will collaborate with service engineers to create tooling that allows engineering teams to manage their data usage effectively. Your contributions will provide leadership with granular visibility into TCO, helping Apple maintain its culture of innovation and responsibility.

You will be responsible for optimizing data processing workflows and ensuring that the systems you build are scalable and efficient. Your expertise will guide the team in making data-driven decisions that align with Apple's strategic goals.
