Who you are

You have extensive experience in large-scale networking and traffic infrastructure — your expertise allows you to build next-generation platforms for machine learning systems. You are a hands-on technical leader with deep knowledge of Envoy, Istio service mesh, and L4/L7 load balancing, and you are passionate about modern internet protocols such as HTTP/2, gRPC, and HTTP/3.

Your contributions to CNCF or networking projects demonstrate your commitment to advancing the field — you have a track record of working on significant projects like Envoy, Istio, and Kubernetes networking. You are excited about building capacity-aware, metrics-driven traffic systems for ML inference and training, and you thrive in environments that challenge your technical skills.

You enjoy collaborating with ML engineers, SREs, and platform teams to create secure, observable, and adaptive traffic infrastructure. Your ability to design and scale traffic platforms that power large-scale ML workloads is a key asset that you bring to the team.

Desirable

Experience with dynamic control planes and programmable traffic infrastructure is a plus — you understand the importance of low-latency, high-throughput systems in supporting billions of requests. Your familiarity with metrics-driven approaches to traffic management will help you excel in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of modern L4/L7 traffic systems that intelligently route, balance, and optimize requests across heterogeneous compute environments. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the traffic infrastructure supports GPU-backed inference services and multi-cloud deployments.

You will architect solutions that deliver highly performant, resilient, and intelligent traffic infrastructure, enabling Apple’s Search and ML ecosystems to operate at scale. Your work will involve leveraging Envoy-based data planes and Istio service mesh to create a robust traffic management platform.

You will be responsible for driving the technical direction of the MLPT Traffic Infrastructure Team, ensuring that the systems you build are capable of handling the demands of large-scale machine learning workloads. Your leadership will guide the team in developing innovative solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of traffic systems.
