You are a seasoned technical leader with a strong background in platform reliability engineering. You thrive in a role that allows you to own technical execution and architecture without the need for people management. You have a passion for building systems that are resilient under pressure and have a keen understanding of failure modes and capacity planning. Your experience includes hands-on work in designing and building core platform systems, and you are comfortable guiding individual contributors through technical design and project leadership.

You have a deep understanding of various technologies and frameworks, including AWS, Kubernetes, MySQL, and more. You are particularly skilled in creating systems that ensure reliability and performance, and you are adept at making key technical decisions that impact the long-term engineering strategy. You enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams and are committed to setting high standards for engineering quality.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the technical direction for Asana's Platform Reliability Engineering team, overseeing complex projects that require innovative solutions. You will be responsible for designing and building systems that include load shedding, rate limiting, circuit breakers, and traffic controls, ensuring that Asana can handle real-world loads effectively. Your hands-on approach will involve significant time spent coding alongside your team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

You will partner with other platform teams to integrate reliability into the core of the engineering process, ensuring that it is built in rather than bolted on. Your leadership will guide the team in making critical architectural decisions and executing on the engineering strategy. You will also play a key role in mentoring team members, helping them grow their technical skills and understanding of best practices in platform reliability.
