BigCommerce is hiring a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to maintain and improve their Cloud Development Environment. You'll work with GCP, Terraform, and other tools to enhance productivity for engineers. This role requires experience in cloud infrastructure and automation.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in cloud infrastructure management, with experience in maintaining and improving cloud development environments. Your expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) allows you to manage cloud-hosted virtual machines effectively, ensuring that engineers can work without technical impediments. You are proficient in automation tools and have a solid understanding of provisioning processes, which helps streamline operations.
You are skilled in using technologies such as Terraform, Puppet, and CircleCI, which you leverage to provide an effective development environment. Your experience with programming languages like Ruby and Go enables you to maintain services that orchestrate infrastructure, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. You are also comfortable educating engineers on tool usage and process improvements, fostering a culture of continuous learning and efficiency.
What you'll do
In this role, you will maintain and enhance BigCommerce's Cloud Development Environment, focusing on improving the productivity of engineers by removing environment-related concerns. You will manage cloud-hosted virtual machines in GCP, ensuring they are provisioned and maintained effectively. Your responsibilities will include evolving the VM provisioning process and responding to support requests related to the development environment.
You will work closely with a small, distributed team, engaging with the entire Engineering organization to ensure that the development environment meets the needs of all engineers. Your role will involve documenting technical processes and improvements, as well as educating team members on best practices and tool usage. You will play a crucial part in helping engineers become more productive and less encumbered by technical burdens, ultimately contributing to the overall success of BigCommerce's mission to empower merchants.
