Who you are

You have over 5 years of experience in backend engineering, particularly in building scalable production systems. You have a strong understanding of service architecture and have successfully managed services from design through deployment, tackling complex distributed systems issues along the way.

Your expertise lies in Java and Spring, and you have a proven track record of shipping high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests. You are well-versed in best practices for dependency injection and testing strategies, ensuring that the systems you build are robust and maintainable.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced setting and are eager to take on challenges that push the boundaries of what’s possible in e-commerce.

Desirable

Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure is a plus, as is familiarity with microservices architecture. You may also have experience in e-commerce or retail technology, which would give you a unique perspective on the challenges faced in this industry.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Backend Engineer at Coupang, you will lead the Retail Engineering organization, focusing on enhancing the retail selection process. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining multiple systems that support selection identification, sourcing, onboarding, and management.

You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Your role will involve designing APIs that are not only efficient but also scalable, ensuring they can handle the growing demands of our e-commerce platform.

You will also be involved in code reviews and architectural discussions, helping to shape the technical direction of the team. Your insights will be invaluable in optimizing existing systems and implementing new features that improve the overall user experience.
