Overview
Elicit is hiring an ML Research Resident to develop computational procedures that improve knowledge states over iterations. You'll work with Python and machine learning techniques, particularly focusing on Transformers. This role is ideal for those looking to start their career in AI research.
Job Description
Who you are
You are an aspiring AI Research Engineer with a strong foundation in machine learning and a keen interest in developing innovative computational procedures. You have experience with Python and are familiar with Transformers, understanding their application in improving knowledge states through structured information. You are eager to learn and contribute to research that emphasizes transparency and verifiability in reasoning.
You possess a solid software engineering background, having applied your skills to create novel abstractions that enhance automated reasoning. Your analytical mindset allows you to separate inferences from raw evidence, find connections between ideas, and build clearer explanations. You are motivated by the challenge of making improvements that are not only effective but also epistemically sound.
What you'll do
As an ML Research Resident, you will collaborate with the Elicit team for three months, focusing on designing and testing improvement operators that maintain stability over thousands of iterations. Your work will involve developing methods to enhance knowledge states, ensuring that each step is human-readable and contributes to genuine progress in understanding. You will engage in iterative testing and refinement of your operators, aiming to improve the reasoning capabilities of LLMs.
You will also participate in discussions about the implications of your research, contributing to a culture of transparency and collaboration. Your role will require you to document your findings and share insights with the team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement. You will have the opportunity to explore the frontiers of automated reasoning and potentially transition to a full-time position based on your performance.
What we offer
Elicit provides a supportive environment for you to grow as an AI Research Engineer. You will receive competitive compensation ranging from $12,000 to $15,000 per month, depending on your experience. The role offers flexibility with the option to work remotely within US timezones, while also allowing for in-person collaboration in Oakland. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds in our team.
