Overview
Elicit is hiring a Founding Engineer for their Data Platform to build a comprehensive corpus of academic documents and integrate various data sources. You'll work with technologies like Python, AWS, and SQL. This position targets a senior-level candidate with experience in data engineering.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in data engineering with experience in building scalable data pipelines — you've worked with various data sources and understand how to make heterogeneous data usable for machine learning models. Your expertise in Python and SQL allows you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
You are familiar with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and have experience deploying data solutions in a cloud environment — you understand the intricacies of cloud storage, data lakes, and serverless architectures. Your knowledge of Docker enables you to create reproducible environments for data processing and model deployment.
You have a solid understanding of data ingestion methods and are skilled in using tools like Apache Kafka or Airflow for orchestrating data workflows — you know how to handle real-time data streams and batch processing efficiently. Your experience with Elasticsearch allows you to implement powerful search capabilities on large datasets, enhancing the usability of the data you manage.
You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and product managers — you understand the importance of aligning data engineering efforts with business goals and user needs. Your communication skills enable you to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is a plus, as it will help you understand the data needs of ML models better. Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker can also enhance your ability to present data insights effectively.
What you'll do
As a Founding Engineer at Elicit, you will be responsible for building a complete corpus of academic documents, ensuring that data is available as soon as it is published — you will integrate various data sources and ingestion methods to create a seamless data pipeline. Your work will directly contribute to the scalability of Elicit's AI research assistant, enabling it to process and reason through complex data efficiently.
You will collaborate closely with the product team to broaden the tasks that can be completed within Elicit — your insights will help shape the future of the platform, making good reasoning more accessible to both experts and non-experts. You will also be involved in optimizing data storage solutions and ensuring data integrity throughout the ingestion process.
Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest advancements in data engineering and machine learning — you will have the opportunity to experiment with new technologies and methodologies that can enhance Elicit's capabilities. You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow in their roles.
What we offer
Elicit offers competitive salaries and equity options, with starting ranges for senior-level roles between $185,000 and $270,000 plus equity — we believe in equitable compensation and transparent salary structures. You will be part of a mission-driven company that aims to increase the amount of good reasoning in the world, working alongside a talented team of professionals.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value diverse perspectives and are committed to building an inclusive workplace. Join us in our mission to empower researchers and decision-makers with the tools they need to make informed choices.
