Google is hiring a Data Center Technician II to install, configure, and maintain hardware and server software in their data center. You'll work with Linux and networking protocols, requiring experience in troubleshooting and hardware repair.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware. Your hands-on experience includes performing component-level repairs on IT equipment, and you are physically capable of lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50lb (23kg). You thrive in a collaborative environment and can adapt to changes in a dynamic work setting, demonstrating your ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays.

You possess a certification in the Google IT Support Professional Certificate program, which showcases your commitment to professional development in IT support. Your experience in a data center or network operation center environment has equipped you with the skills necessary to handle the complexities of hardware and networking protocols effectively. You are a team player who can partner with others to overcome challenges and ensure smooth operations.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Technician II at Google, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware such as servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will take on the configuration of complex components including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. Your role will also involve participating in or leading small project teams on larger installations, ensuring that all tasks are completed in accordance with Google's high standards for data security.

You will be expected to disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life, performing part replacements or maintenance in a team setting. Your responsibilities will include repairing, fixing, and performing preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with defined solutions. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of operations.
